What children learn at Blue Seal
Our curriculum grows with each child. Reading and number stay at the centre from the first day to the last, and every year adds more nature, art, music, and independence. Here is the full picture, stage by stage.
Stage 01
Early Years
A gentle first year built on stories, songs, and play. Children settle into routines and discover that school is a warm, friendly place to be.
First numbers
Ages 4 to 5Counting, sorting, and shape through everyday play and simple games. Numbers start in the sandpit and the snack table, not on a worksheet.
Play and discovery
Ages 4 to 5Sand, water, and building corners where curiosity leads the morning. Children choose, try, and tidy up together as a class.
Music and song
Ages 4 to 5Daily singing and simple instruments that help wiggly bodies settle and give every child a voice in the room.
Stage 02
Lower School
The years where reading and number really take hold. Lessons stay hands on, with science and art woven through every week.
Reading and writing
Ages 5 to 8Phonics moves into fluent reading, and children take their first steps into writing for fun, with stories, lists, letters, and labels.
Number sense
Ages 5 to 8Maths grounded in real life: shopping, measuring, and sharing, so the numbers always mean something children can picture.
Nature and science
Ages 6 to 8A school garden, a weather station, and lots of questions about how things work. We grow vegetables and watch the seasons turn.
Art and design
Ages 5 to 8Painting, sculpture, and design challenges that turn ideas into things children can hold, hang up, and take home.
Stage 03
Upper School
Confident, curious, and ready for more. Children take on projects, lead in class, and prepare gently for the move to secondary school.
Deeper reading
Ages 8 to 11Longer books, class discussion, and writing that helps each child find a voice. Our library is open every lunchtime.
Applied maths
Ages 8 to 11Reasoning and problem solving where the why always comes before the how, so children can explain their thinking, not just their answer.
Forest and field
All agesOutdoor learning days where lessons happen under the trees and in the fresh air, just down the lane from the school gate.
Ready for next
Ages 10 to 11Study habits, independence, and a calm, well-prepared move to Year 7, with visits, talks, and plenty of time to ask questions.
