Reading buddies pairs our oldest and youngest pupils
This term we launched Reading Buddies, a simple idea with a big heart. Twice a week, our oldest pupils sit with the reception class and share a story, one to one, on the cushions in the library corner.
For the little ones, it is a calm, friendly start to reading with someone who is not a grown-up. For the older children, it is a real responsibility, and a chance to remember just how far they have come since they were four.
Teachers have noticed the quieter benefits too. Buddies look out for each other in the playground, and the younger children walk a little taller knowing they have a friend in Year 6.
We will keep the programme running through the summer term and hope to make it a fixture of every year from now on.
