Spring garden week filled the playground with green
For one bright week in May, the whole school swapped the classroom for the garden. Each class took a raised bed and chose what to grow, from sunflowers and beans to a surprisingly ambitious patch of pumpkins.
The youngest children focused on the simple joys: digging, watering, and watching the first green shoots push through the soil. Older pupils kept a weekly journal, measuring growth and noting which corner of the garden caught the most sun.
Parents joined us on the Friday for a garden tea. Children gave tours of their beds, explained what they had learned, and handed out the first few radishes of the season with great pride.
Gardening is woven through our science teaching all year, but a dedicated week reminds everyone how much grows when small hands are given a patch of earth and a bit of patience.
